Michelle L. Walker receives Red Cross Ready-to-Go Emergency Preparedness Kit.

Mayor Taveras and PEMA Director Pete Gaynor today congratulated Providence resident Michelle L. Walker for winning this month's Most Ready Providence Resident award.

"Taking the first step to prepare yourself and your family before an emergency or a natural disaster strikes is critical to preventing loss of life and property. I urge all Providence residents to follow Michelle's lead and plan ahead. PEMA offers many useful tools and resources that can you help prepare," said the Mayor.

The online quiz consists of five multiple choice questions based on important information found on the PEMA website. The contest is held every month and the winner is randomly selected from the pool that answers all questions correctly. The prize is a Red Cross Ready-to-go Emergency Preparedness Kit, which contains over 38 necessary items needed in case of an emergency. The supplies come in a portable bag making it easy to access and carry. Some of the items included are: bottled water, a flashlight, bandages, emergency blanket and several first aid and personal items.
