Natasha Buckler joined the City Solicitor’s office in 2014. She represents the City in a broad range of civil litigation matters, including personal injury defense, labor and employment law, breach of contract, employment discrimination, and appeals. She also works on open government matters relating to the Access to Public Records Act and the Open Meetings Act. During her tenure with the City, Natasha has served as counsel to various City boards and commissions, drafted and reviewed City contracts, and worked on various legislative issues. She also worked on affirmative litigation matters in which Providence was involved, handling securities litigation that aims to hold corporations accountable for their misbehavior in order to maintain the integrity of the securities market.
In 2017, Natasha was appointed by Mayor Elorza to serve as the City’s Municipal Integrity Officer. In that capacity, Natasha is charged with encouraging City employees and appointed and elected official to understand, appreciate, and adhere to their obligations under both the City’s and the State’s Codes of Ethics. Toward that end, she serves as counsel to the Providence Ethics Commission and works with the Commission to develop education and training materials. She also provides informal advice and guidance to employees and officials and serves as a liaison with the Rhode Island Ethics Commission.
Prior to joining the City, Natasha spent two years as lead law clerk to the Honorable Paul A. Suttell of the Rhode Island Supreme Court and one year as a litigation attorney handling creditors’ rights at a regional law firm. She is a cum laude graduate of Roger Williams University School of Law, where she was an editor for the school’s Law Review, an Honors Program member, and a recipient of five CALI Excellence for the Future Awards for earning the highest grades in particular classes. During her final year at Roger Williams, Natasha externed for the Honorable Judge Bruce M. Selya of the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
Natasha received her B.A., cum laude, from Brandeis University. She serves on the Board of Directors of Camp Jori. Outside of work, Natasha enjoys yoga, traveling, and spending time with friends and family, especially her husband, two young sons, and golden retriever.
