As Providence begins disposing yard debris left over from winter, the City is reminding residents of a few important waste collection programs:
Yard Waste Collection Begins on Monday, April 18
For pickup, residents should put out their yard waste on their regular scheduled trash day.
Free Pickup of Bulky Items
Residents are required to contact Waste Management at 800-972-4545 at least 24 hours before their regularly scheduled trash collection day to request free pickup of bulky items, such as furniture, mattresses, refrigerators, washers and other large appliances. The free service is designed to improve the quality of life in neighborhoods by ensuring that large discarded bulky items do not become eyesores in the city's neighborhoods.
Failure to schedule an appointment for bulky item removal could result in a notice of environmental violation and subject to a fine.
E-Waste
Waste Management will also pick up unwanted e-waste such as televisions, computers, printers and monitors. Residents may also dispose of their e-waste in the specially designated "e-waste pods" located in the parking lot of DPW at 700 Allens Avenue between the hours of 8:30am to 4:30pm. State law prohibits the disposal of e-waste in trash.
