The voters in Rhode Island have three Ways to Vote:
September 10, 2024, Statewide Primary:
At Home by Mail
Application Deadline August 20, 2024
The mail ballot deadline has passed for the September 10, 2024, Statewide Primary. You can still apply for an Emergency Mail Ballot by filling out the application found here and file it with the Board of Canvassers.
Early Voting
Starts August 21 and ends at 4pm on September 9 During Normal Business Hours
In the 20 days leading up to Election Day, you can vote in person at city hall during regular business hours. This is a great option if you are unable to vote at your usual polling place on Election Day.
You will be asked to show an acceptable photo ID. If you do not bring an acceptable photo ID when voting in person, you will vote an emergency mail ballot.
Election Day Voting
Polls are open from 7am to 8pm. You must be in line by 8pm to cast your ballot. You can find your polling place and view a sample ballot at vote.ri.gov. Make sure to bring an acceptable form of IID with you to the polls. If you do not have an acceptable form of ID you will be asked to do a provisional ballot.
Acceptable Photo IDs include:
- RI driver’s license/permit
- Passport
- ID card issued by any federally recognized tribal government
- ID card issued by an educational institution in the U.S.
- Military ID card
- ID card issued by the U.S. government or State of Rhode Island (RIPTA bus pass, etc.)
- Government issued medical card
- RI Voter ID card
November 5, 2024, General Election:
At Home by Mail

You can apply for a mail in ballot online at vote.ri.gov or by filling out an application and filing it with the Board of Canvassers.

Starts October 16 and ends at 4pm on November 4 During Normal Business Hours
