Ticket to Space Opportunity! The International Space Station (ISS) Magnitude.io RI Team, in partnership with the Museum of Natural History and Planetarium, invites teachers and their students, in grades 5-8, to the ISS. Our goal is to inspire and engage students with a project-based experience aboard the ISS that allows them to participate from home or in their classroom. In cooperation with the U.S. National Laboratory on the International Space Station, the ExoLab-8 mission launches to the ISS on February 20, and you can join this investigation of astrobotany taking place on a research lab larger than a football field, 250 miles above the planet, traveling at 17,500 miles per hour.
The Ticket to Space includes individually-packaged student kits for conducting ground trial plant experiments. Working with educators at the Museum of Natural History, students and teachers will have access to the Magnitude.io online platform that has a rich variety of lessons and activities focused on scientific inquiry and plant science. Students and teachers will be able to view images and data of the Exolab experiment while it is aboard the ISS. The program begins with pre-mission lessons and activities in early February and a rocket launch to space in February. The ISS engagement runs through March.
Join us for this extraordinary learning experience completed with curriculum mapped to NGSS. This is the 8th ExoLab mission to the ISS, and we’d love you and your students to join us on this free opportunity. Students will remember the year that they went to space. Applications are being accepted through January 22, 2021.
