Draft Comprehensive Plan – City Council Review Process

The Providence City Council will host a continued public hearing on the Comprehensive Plan on Wednesday, October 2nd, at 5:30PM. The hearing will be held in the City Council Chamber, on the 3rd floor of Providence City Hall (25 Dorrance Street). If you are unable to attend the hearing but would like to share testimony, submit it via email to cityclerk@providenceri.gov by no later than 3PM on Tuesday, October 1st.

Edits to the draft plan made in response to feedback heard at the September 16th hearing will be publicized (and linked here) in advance of October 2nd.

Engagement Process Summary Report

At the December 2023 Providence City Plan Commission meeting, Department of Planning and Development staff gave a presentation summarizing the PVD Comprehensive Plan community engagement process thus far, its key findings, and emerging policy directions.

Previous City Plan Commission Meeting Materials

At the February 2024 City Plan Commission meeting, DPD staff presented on the Comp Plan’s draft “growth strategy.” Presentation slides are available here in English and Spanish, as well as a video recording of the presentation.

At a March 2024 City Plan Commission meeting, DPD staff presented on the Comp Plan’s draft Land Use chapter. Presentation slides are available in here English and Spanish, as well as a video recording of the presentation (beginning at hour 2:25).

At special meetings of the City Plan Commission in April and May 2024, DPD staff presented the remaining chapters of the draft Comprehensive Plan Update.

On June 18th 2024, the City Plan Commission held a public hearing on the draft Comprehensive Plan in its entirety and voted to approve the document with changes, advancing it to the City Council for the next phase of review.
