Join us for family fun at the Museum of Natural History this summer with daily planetarium shows and activities.
Planetarium shows in July and August:
Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 2pm: Our Place in Space Planetarium Show
Tuesdays, 2pm: NASA’s Journey to Mars Full Dome Planetarium Show
Fridays, 2pm: Two Small Pieces of Glass Full Dome Planetarium Show
Saturdays and Sundays, 2pm: Summer Sky Views Planetarium Show
Cost: $3 per person (includes museum admission.) Children under age 4 are not permitted in the planetarium. Early arrival is suggested as tickets are sold first-come, first-served. People are not permitted to enter the planetarium once the show has begun. Show offerings subject to change.
Family Drop-in Activity Tables in July and August:
Tuesdays in July and August, 1pm-2pm: Discover Mars, our most explored planet!
Cost: Free with museum admission
Learn what we know about it, what we hope to learn about it in the future and why it’s the planet most likely to be visited by people someday at this special drop-in activity table.
Fridays in July and August, 1pm-2pm: Discover the 3 Rs of sustainability – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!
Cost: Free with museum admission
See how some everyday products are getting a new life and being reused in some surprising ways. Also view the steps along the recycling process at this special drop-in activity table.
When is the museum open?
The museum is open every day from 10:00am to 4:00pm, with last admission at 3:30pm. Please note: No food or drink are permitted in the museum and planetarium, this includes the museum’s lobby and entryway. The Museum is closed July 4 and August 13. There are not planetarium shows with the museum is closed.
When is the planetarium open?
Located in the Museum of Natural History, the planetarium is a dome theater which is only open during showtimes. Public planetarium shows are offered at 2pm every Saturday and Sunday, during RI February and April school vacation weeks and daily in July and August.
What are the admission fees?
Museum admission is $2 per person. Children under age 4 are free.
Some special programs have a separate admission.
Planetarium admission (includes museum admission) is $3 per person. Children under age 4 are not permitted in the planetarium.
As a thank you to all those who serve our country, we are offering free admission for active military service members and up to 5 family members Memorial Day through Labor Day. Must show military ID to receive discount. Click here for other participating museums.
First Saturday of the month is FREE for Providence residents.
The first Saturday of every month is free to Providence (not East or North Providence) residents only, with proof of residency. Proof of residency is a driver’s license or photo ID with name and address printed on it. This serves as a “thank you” to Providence residents who help support the museum.
