Plogging/Plawking Parties (Picking up Litter While Jogging or Walking) and Tree-Cookie Project

Burnside Park
Saturday, April 22, 8am-10am
In partnership with Downtown Providence Parks Network this group will meet at Burnside Park and then disperse in small groups to pick up litter throughout downtown sidewalks, alleyways and public green spaces for an hour. Trash bags, gloves and festive grabbers will be donated by the city. The group will then reconnect at Burnside for coffee and pastry from a local, downtown bakery. Help spread the message about the importance of trees by taking a tree cookie (or 6!) along on your plawk! Tree cookies are artfully designed tree-rings with tree facts. Hang these beautiful and educational tree cookies throughout downtown or take home to showcase in your own home, park and neighborhood. Ward 2 Plawking Party
April 22, 8:00am-10:30am
Meeting at the Narragansett Boat Club (2 River Drive) and plawking our way along the Seekonk River shoreline. Trash bags, gloves and festive grabbers will be donated by the city. Returning to the NBC for coffee and pastry from a Ward 2 bakery. Help spread the message about the importance of trees by taking a tree cookie along on your plawk or take home to showcase in your own home, yard, park and neighborhood. WARD 5 Plawking Party
Saturday, April 22, 10am-12pm
Meeting at 590 Pleasant Valley Parkway and plawking our way between city parks in the Mt Pleasant and Elmhurst Neighborhoods. Trash bags, gloves and festive grabbers will be donated by the city. Help spread the message about the importance of trees by taking a tree cookie (or 6!) along on your plawk or take home to showcase in your own home, yard, park and neighborhood. Meeting at George West Park and plawking throughout the community for an hour. Trash bags, gloves and festive grabbers will be donated by the city. Plawkers will return to the park for coffee and local treats provided by a Ward 6 bakery. Help spread the message about the importance of trees by taking a tree cookie (or 6!) along on your plawk or take home to showcase in your own home, park and neighborhood. Downtown Neighborhood Association Plawking Party
Friday, April 21, 8am-12pm (various locations)
In partnership Downtown Providence Parks Association and the Providence Riverboat Company, plawkers will meet at Providence Riverboat Co. landing (101 Dyer) and plawk throughout downtown and along the river-walk. Trash bags, gloves and festive grabbers will be donated by the city. Plawkers will return to headquarters to gather for coffee and pastry provided by a local, downtown bakery. Tree cookies will be available to take home to help spread the message about the importance of trees and tree care. Walk with a Doc While You Plawk
Saturday, April 22m 10am-12pm
In partnership with our Walk with a Doc Fitness Program, join Dr. Mark Paulos and his crew of walkers at the Michael Van Leesten Pedestrian Bridge to plawk throughout the neighborhood while also discussing healthy lifestyle tips. Trash bags, gloves and festive grabbers will be donated by the city. The perfect way to conjoin a commitment to a healthy body and healthy planet. India Point/Narragansett Brewery ED Volunteer Appreciation Kick-off Party

Ances-Tree-Wrapping Celebration at the RWP Gateway Center
Saturday, April 22, 1-4pm
A community event involving Rhode Island Black Story Tellers (RIBS) and Rhode Island Latino Arts (RILA). Families will gather at the Gateway center to write messages of gratitude on large, colorful ribbons that they will then use to decorate a tree on the Gateway grounds.
Participants with have the pleasure of listening to two, thirty minute tree tales as told by RIBS and RILA as well as get their hands dirty with some hands-on tree care sessions hosted by the Forestry dept. Expert tree climbers will also be on site to showcase the fun to be had in climbing trees carefully.

Tree-L-C Walks, Talks and Climbs Featuring Providence Neighborhood Tree Planting Partnership (PNPP) and our City Forester at the RWP Gateway Center,

Join your fellow tree lovers in helping to provide some much-needed Tree-L-C to our city’s young street trees. Learn skills and techniques that will help take care of street trees on your own block/street/neighborhood. This tree-L-C Workshops/work sessions includes tree pit clean-up and maintenance sessions led by PNPP staff and trained tree care volunteers.
Take a walk around Roger Williams Park with PNPP to discover some of the more notable trees in the park, learn about the Providence tree plan, urban forests, tree equity and why trees are so deserving of every day Tree-L-C. RSVP by emailing ctharinger@pnpp.org
Roger Williams Park Arbor Day Bike Tour at the Gateway Center

Join Johnson and Wales students in an afternoon bike tour of Roger Williams Park and then refuel back at the Gateway with refreshments as we discuss the Providence Bike Infrastructure plan. Earth Day Activities at North Burial Ground
Saturday April 22, 8:30am-1pm
- Pollinator Garden planting and wood chipping at Randall Park
- Invasive species removal and rejuvenation of our ponds: Mostly focused on rainwater pond, cleaning out some of the mess and giving the area a good “spring cleaning”
- Tree Planting! Six mature trees need to take up permanent residence at NBG to provide a lush sightline and sound barrier. A small team of mighty volunteers would help to these trees in the ground in our city’s largest cemetery
- For a little something extra… NBG is hosting a Women’s History Tour as part of RI Historic Cemeteries Awareness Month at 2pm. After all the ED23 hard work, stay for refreshment and a tour of the many phenomenal women who have left their imprint NBG

Earth April at the Museum of Natural History Planetarium Monday
April 10 – Sunday, April 16
Discover the diversity of our amazing planet, past and present! Explore the museum and see our new lobby exhibit, Flight of the Dinosaurs: The Origins of Birds that opens on Friday, April 7. From the ground under your feet to the sky above, come celebrate our dynamic planet with the Museum of Natural History and Planetarium in Roger Williams Park.
