Mayor Jorge O. Elorza today joined members of the City Council, Parks Superintendent Wendy Nilsson, Recreation Director Michael Stephens, and Joslin Recreation Center Director Elmer Stanley in a ribbon cutting ceremony for the City’s new Splash Water Park. The outdoor play space is designed to be opened throughout the year and provides children and adults a unique experience as the structures and equipment can be enjoyed without the presence of water.
“The addition of this innovative waterpark gives Providence families yet another destination to stay cool and active during the hot summer days” said Mayor Elorza. “My vision for our Joslin Recreation Center is for it to become a recreational complex that offers something for the entire family. I’m proud to welcome Elmer Stanley as director and look forward to working together to create a stronger and more vibrant rec center for Olneyville.”
Splash Water Park is unique in that it will be open year-round for free and open play, but the water features will only operate during the summer when there are attendants directly on the premises. The park is a part of a first phase of changes and improvements to Joslin Recreation Center, which also includes a new basketball court and a storm water management-rain garden.
The park will be open with the water features Monday through Saturday from 12:00pm to 5:00pm during the months of July and August, but will also be open to the public without the water features daily throughout the year.
