The City of Providence & Airbnb are Collaborating to Turn Local Homes into World Cup Stays
With visitors from around the globe expected to travel to Rhode Island, Providence is gearing up for a busy and exciting summer season. The collaboration aims to help meet increased demand for accommodations while giving local property owners new opportunities to host and earn extra income.
How to Apply for a Short-Term Rental Temporary Use Permit:
- Go to providenceri.gov/inspection-standards/ and click the Permits / Inspections Request button
- Scroll down the permit types list to Short-Term Rental – Temporary Use Permit and click Apply Online
- Submitted applications will be reviewed by City Staff
- Pay the fee – You will be prompted to pay the $50 fee following application approvals
- Download the Permit – available following the payment of fee (permits are annual, and you will be automatically prompted to renew after 11 months)
INFO YOU NEED and things to KNOW and before submitting for a Short-Term Rental Temporary Use Permit:
- The address and unit number of the dwelling unit to be used for Short-Term Rental
- Your State of RI Short-Term Rental Registration Number and its expiration date (https://dbr.ri.gov/real-estate-and-commercial-licensing/short-term-rentals)
- The zoning district of your property (use this map to find out!)
- Please note! If your property is within a primarily residential zone (R-1, R-1A, R-3, and R-4), in order to offer a Short-Term Rental, you need to be an owner occupant of the property such that you consider it your predominant and principal home. This status will be reviewed by the Tax Assessor as part of general application review.
In addition, The Providence Business Center (located at 444 Westminster Street) will be hosting a Short-Term Rental Info Session on Thursday, May 28th, 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm in which renters are encouraged to learn more about how to apply to be a short-term renter during the World Cup and after.
