Which bike lanes has the Smiley Administration removed?
The Smiley Administration has not removed any bike lanes. In fact, the City has added over a mile of bike lane infrastructure since taking office.
Are there any plans for new bike lanes in Providence?
Current projects that are part of the Safe Streets For All program are safety improvements on Broadway, Fountain Street and South Water Street, where existing bike lanes will be upgraded to a safer, separated and more permanent design. Also included in Safe Streets For All are improvements for all road users, including in Olneyville Square, in the West End and at a selection of high-crash intersections throughout the city.
Where can I learn more about the City’s approach to making Providence safer for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists?
Last year the City developed The Safe Streets Plan which updated the 2020 Great Streets Plan with new data and lessons learned from previous Great Streets projects. The new plan also connects to the City’s updated comprehensive plan and Vision Zero. The Mayor’s top priority is building a transportation network that is safe, reliable and works for everyone. That includes pedestrians, transit riders, drivers and cyclists. Safety is the through line in all of our planning. We are focused on reducing serious injuries and fatalities, improving traffic flow and making sure infrastructure investments are data driven and coordinated with broader economic development and neighborhood needs.
