The City of Providence is working to respond to the numerous Access to Public Records Act (APRA) requests received following the City’s response to the shooting at Brown University. Since the incident, the City has encouraged the release of as much information to the public as possible. The City values transparency, while also ensuring that the release of records complies with Rhode Island law, including exemptions intended to protect the privacy of victims and witnesses.
Many of the records related to the City’s response have been requested by multiple individuals, organizations, or agencies. To streamline the release of these materials, records that are deemed releasable will be posted here. As additional records become available, they will be added to this page.
Certain requested records are currently exempt from disclosure or confidential under Rhode Island law. Information regarding those requests will also be posted on the City’s website, as appropriate.
We encourage members of the public to view these materials with sensitivity and respect for those affected by this tragedy.
