The Providence Police Department prepares for evaluation to ensure compliance with CALEA accreditation standards
Providence, RI – A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), will complete an examination of all aspects of the Providence Police Department’s policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services on June 14, 2021 and June 15, 2021.
The purpose of the assessment is to determine if the Providence Police Department meets all applicable standards required by the Commission in order to be re-accredited. CALEA accreditation is a voluntary process that the Providence Police Department has pursued in order to maintain and implement the best practices and demonstrate the commitment of the men and women of the department to professional law enforcement in and for our community.
As part of the assessment process, agency employees and members of the Providence community are encouraged to offer comments to the assessment team regarding candidacy for re-accreditation. The public information session will be held virtually utilizing Zoom and will take place on Monday, June 14, 2021 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

If an individual cannot participate in the public information session via Zoom, but would like to provide comments to the assessment team, he/she may do so by telephone, mail, or email.
Agency employees and the public can call 757-262-8200 on Monday, June 14, 2021 between the hours of 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. to offer their comments directly to the CALEA assessors. Telephone comments as well as those given at the public information session are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA Standards. Accreditation is for four years, during which the agency must submit annual reports, and participate in annual remote web-based assessments attesting continued compliance with those standards under which it was initially accredited.
