PROVIDENCE – The City of Providence is looking for trees that fill your senses with holiday cheer and welcome all neighbors from far and near! Mayor Jorge O. Elorza and the Department of Art, Culture and Tourism will once again host their annual holiday tree lighting ceremonies at Providence City Hall on Friday, December 2, 2022 at 5PM and at the BankNewport Rink on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at 3PM.
This year, the City needs two spruce or fir trees:
- One 35-foot to 45-foot spruce or fir tree to grace the steps of Providence City Hall and;
- one 15-foot to 20-foot spruce or fir tree for the BankNewport Rink.
Residents can nominate their tree by sending an e-mail with a description and photo of the tree to Allison Barry, the Cultural Affairs Manager of the Department of Art, Culture + Tourism at . Submissions must be received by Friday, November 15, 2022 to be considered.
The Forestry Division of the Providence Parks Department will cut the winning trees down and haul them away free of charge, with Stanley Tree Service generously donating crane service. The trees will be displayed on the steps of Providence City Hall and at the BankNewport Rink throughout the holiday season.
The winning tree owner(s) will have the opportunity to be photographed in front of their tree during the lighting ceremony with Mayor Elorza.
