PROVIDENCE, RI – Today the City of Providence announced its annual summer programming at the BankNewport City Center with a full season of new and returning activities coming to the downtown facility, including the return of the Super Fun Activities Club and debut of Roller Rink Disco. The BankNewport City Center is located at 2 Kennedy Plaza in the heart of downtown Providence.
“The BankNewport City Center has become a transformative outdoor public space that our residents and tourists enjoy year-round,” said Mayor Jorge O. Elorza. “Whether you’re looking to lace up your roller skates or watch a movie outdoors, our City Center has exciting outdoor programming for everyone.”
For the first time, the City Center Rink will transform into a massive outdoor roller disco every Thursday and Friday night beginning in June. Skaters can groove to some of the City’s local DJs and live acts with pulsing lights and a spinning disco ball. The Trinity Beer Garden, located adjacent to the City Center, will be on hand with beverages and snacks throughout programming.
“We are thrilled to join the Providence Parks Department to announce this exciting summer programming,” said BankNewport Executive Vice President, Director of Employee and Community Engagement, Wendy Kagan. “Through BankNewport’s title sponsorship of the City Center, it is our goal to provide Rhode Islanders and visitors alike with a unique destination experience in the heart of downtown Providence. From the outdoor movie series, to various sports activities, to even roller disco, there will truly be something for everyone to enjoy this summer.”
Additionally, the Super Fun Activities Club (SFAC) returns for another season of 21+ outdoor sports activities. Volleyball, pickleball, dodgeball and soccer will be offered on a weekly, rotating basis. The SFAC promotes an inclusive, non-competitive environment for adults looking to build community through sports. Visit the SFAC website for more information on scheduling and registration.
Finally, City Center is introducing Movies at the Rink, a monthly series of family friendly films during which residents and visitors can relax in front of a giant inflatable movie screen. The 14,000 square foot facility ensures everyone will have a distanced spot and a theater-quality experience. Free general admission seating is available on a first-come, first-serve basis around the rink perimeter and reserved sections are only $3.50 per person.
“We’re excited to offer a jam-packed schedule of summer activities that will bring people together after being apart for so long,” said City of Providence Parks Superintendent Wendy Nilsson. “With so many recreation and entertainment opportunities, our new season of programming is sure to make for an unforgettable summer.”
More events will be added in the weeks and months ahead. For more information and the latest updates, please visit theprovidencerink.com.
