Tax Deadline for On-time First Quarter 2020 Payments Extended, Waterparks Extend Hours Ahead of Heat Wave
July 24, 2020
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Mayor Jorge O. Elorza today announced an executive order that extends current COVID-19 guidelines, aligned with the State guidance, effective through August 19. In addition to extending all COVID-19 related health and safety guidelines in the latest executive order, the Providence port and harbor are closed to all commercial cruise line passenger vessels of all sizes and capacities, and disembarkation is prohibited at any public or private facility within the city.
Due to the late receipt of tax bills by taxpayers and presented by COVID-19, Mayor Elorza also announced that first-quarter tax payments, normally due July 24, can be paid without interest or penalty through Friday, August 14. Taxpayers are encouraged to avoid a physical trip to City Hall and instead, to pay by mail or online. Payment through check or money order can be made using the drop-box located outside of the Eddy Street entrance of City Hall; cash payments will not be accepted via drop-box. For taxpayers who pay in-person, City Buildings are closed on Wednesdays and screening will be done of all visitors.
Additionally, in anticipation of the expected heatwave, Providence waterparks will again operate with extended hours and cooling centers will be accessible Saturday-Tuesday, July 28. Providence waterparks and splash pads, with the exception of Fargnoli Park, will be available 12PM-7PM. The Providence Career and Technical Academy (PCTA) Auditorium (41 Fricker St.) will be accessible via the Cranston Street entrance Sunday-Tuesday from 10:00am to 5:00pm. Crossroads (160 Broad St.) will be accessible throughout the duration of the heatwave 24-hours a day. Crossroads can be reached at 401-521-2255.
