Free performance returns to Roger Williams Park on Wednesday, August 6
Providence, RI — Mayor Brett P. Smiley and the Rhode Island Foundation invite the public to a free performance of the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra’s Summer Pops in the Park at the Roger Williams Park Temple to Music. The event will be held on Wednesday, August 6 beginning at 7:30 pm. A rain date of August 7 will be held in the event of inclement weather. Attendees are encouraged to bring a chair or picnic blanket for an evening of fun under the stars.
“I’m thrilled that the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra is returning to Roger Williams Park for another incredible summer concert at the Temple to Music,” said Mayor Brett Smiley. “This free, family-friendly event has become a cherished Providence tradition, bringing our community together to share in beautiful music surrounded by the natural beauty of one of Rhode Island’s most iconic landmarks. I encourage everyone to bring their loved ones and experience the joy of this year’s performance.”
In addition to the concert, food trucks will be onsite at the Temple to Music serving local, regional and global cuisine.
“Together with our partners, we are inviting the public to what has become a yearly tradition for thousands of Rhode Islanders,” said David N. Cicilline, president and CEO of the Rhode Island Foundation. “Civic and Cultural Life is one of the community priorities that are at the heart of our work. Community begins where people come together to share common experiences. There is no better place to build those bonds than in one of Rhode Island’s most beloved spots.”
This year’s concert features a binge-worthy program of TV’s greatest theme songs. Concertgoers will recognize themes from shows like “The Simpsons,” “Dallas,” “Star Trek,” and more, along with music from game shows and sports. The evening will end with our traditional performance of Tchaikovsky’s thrilling 1812 Overture. Grab your spot, sit back, and let the music take you on a nostalgic ride through TV’s most iconic moments! Conducted by audience favorite Troy Quinn, the 69-piece orchestra will play two 40-minute sets.
“We’re thrilled to be back at Roger Williams Park this summer,” said David Beauchesne, the Philharmonic’s executive director. “At the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra & Music School, we are dedicated to serving all who live in this great state through music, and one of the most powerful ways that we can do that is to get out into the community to perform. We look forward to seeing record crowds and sharing some wonderful music together in the heart of Providence.”
The Rhode Island Foundation will present three of its most prestigious annual awards during intermission:
- Community Leadership Award – Dr. Amy Nunn, CEO of The Rhode Island Public Health Institute
- Civic Leadership Award – Superior Court Magistrate Patrick Burke
- The Trailblazer Award – Angelo Garcia, Founder and Head of District at the Segue Institute for Learning in Central Falls
