The City of Providence is partnering with CET, an environmental nonprofit, to pilot a free recycling program for restaurants and businesses on Federal Hill and on the east side of Providence. This pilot supports local businesses by reducing their hauling costs, helps avoid trash overflows that attract rodents, and reduces recyclable materials being sent to the landfill.

Program Requirements

Businesses must be in the Federal Hill area (including Atwells Ave, W. Fountain St, Broadway, and Westminster St) or on the east side of Providence (including Hope Village, Thayer Street, Wayland Square, and Wickenden Street).

Businesses must accept free support from one of CET’s waste reduction consultants to ensure recycling is successfully integrated into their operations. This includes an in-person visit by CET and reviewing tailored recommendations and resources with CET following the visit.

Businesses must comply with recycling standards. Businesses with repeatedly contaminated recycling carts will be removed from the program.
How it Works

Once in the program, you’ll receive your recycling carts. The number and size of carts is tailored to each business’ needs.

Collections happen twice a week.

Carts should be rolled out to the curb ahead of your collection days.
