Why is there a new version?
A new version of the CodeRED emergency alert system was introduced this month following a nationwide cyberattack in November 2025. Many jurisdictions, including Rhode Island, have transitioned to the new version, designed to be more secure.
Do I need to re-register?
Users are advised to check if their account was transferred, update their passwords, and in some cases, download a new version of the CodeRED app.
Is there a cost?
There is no charge to register for or use CodeRED.
Is there a mobile app?
Yes. The CodeRED mobile app lets you receive alerts wherever you are, even while traveling. You can also view active alerts in your current location. Download the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
Is my personal information secure?
Yes, your information is secure. CodeRED uses strict security protocols and does not share your data with third parties.
