Providence Parks
Abbott Park
History
Abbott Park is a small but historically significant green space located in downtown Providence, Rhode Island, adjacent to the Beneficent Congregational Church. Established in 1746, it is considered the city’s oldest dedicated public space. Daniel Abbott, a prominent figure in Providence’s early history, donated this parcel of land to serve as a public square for the newly formed Congregational congregation. This gesture mirrored the New England tradition of integrating civic and religious life.
Owned and managed by the Beneficent Congregational Church, but open to all.
