Annie Morris Park
History
Deeded to the city in 1970, this park is named after beloved neighbor, Annie Laura Morris, of 9 Salisbury Street, who passed away at the age of 93 on Monday, April 4th, 2016. Annie was honored by the City of Providence in June of 2000 with a citation and renaming of the park, in the neighborhood she spent many years watching over.
Born in Pickensville, AL, she was the daughter of the late Will Morris and Ada Owens. She resided in Mississippi before moving with her children to RI. Annie was employed by the state of Rhode Island, Mental Health and Retardation (sic) Hospital and the Ladd Center until she opened Annie’s Restaurant on Public Street in Providence. She ended her career as a Nurse’s Aide in 1999 from Wrentham Development Center where she retired after 12 years of service.
