History

Providence’s first water spray park was built here on the site of the former Fox Point Pool, which was demolished in the early 1990s. This is one of the city’s oldest neighborhood parks reserved for open space, dating back to the 19th century.

Formerly known as Tockwotton Park, it was renamed in honor of Private First-Class Paul Cabral who died in Vietnam in 1964. Tockwotton is an indigenous place name of Narragansett – Algonquian origin that means a steep ascent to be climbed. The name is synonymous with Fox Point and comprised one of the “seven hills of Providence.”

The park is under complete renovation in 2026. The former little league baseball field will be converted to an open field for multi-sport play as part of the Vartan Gregorian Elementary School Green Schoolyard.
