Providence Parks
Father Lennon Park
History
The park features a paved, lit walking path loop that measures 0.15mi. Located next to the Selim-Rogers Recreation Center and Pool, the park formerly consisted of a soccer field, and was deeded to the city in the 1950’s. In 1997, in recognition of his 50th anniversary as a priest, the park was rededicated for Reverend Joseph L. Lennon, O.P., a Dominican Friar who grew up in the neighborhood and was an active community leader. Father Lennon taught at nearby Providence College and was involved in many local organizations such as Rhode Island Hospital and the R.I. Department of Labor. He passed away in 2011.
