Providence Parks
George J. West Park
History
This park derives its name from the George J. West Elementary School located around the corner on Beaufort Street. At the edge of the park on Chalkstone Avenue is the City of Providence District 6 Police Substation, which was renamed in honor of Patrolman Peter A. Rocchio who died in a car crash in 2009. There is also a monument to Major Edmund Henry Hornstein, US Army, Vietnam. Deeded to the city in 1921 following construction of a then- state-of-the-art Beaufort Street school in 1916.
