Providence Parks
O’Brien Park
History
Deeded to the City in 1889, the park sits across from the former Regent Ave School (now private housing). The park was dedicated on June 13, 1937, to fallen World War I Private John James O’Brien, killed in action in 1918. It contained a basketball court in the 1970’s which was replaced with the playground in 1998. Known to many as the Regent Ave playground, it was re-dedicated to Private OBrien in 2015. A loop around the park’s walking track measures approx. 200 meters or just over one tenth of a mile.
