Providence Parks
Rochambeau Square
History
Deeded to the City in 1911 and named for Revolutionary War General Jean Baptiste Donatien de Vimeur, comte de Rochambeau. Rochambeau Square marks one of the stops of his troops in route to the notable battle at Yorktown. Though small by European standards, Rochambeau’s forces–representing France’s contributions to the War–were a crucial factor in Washington’s military success (National Park Service).
