Providence Parks
Scalabrini Piazza
History
This park was deeded to the City in 1978 and was the original site of the Saint Bartholomew Church in the Silver Lake neighborhood. It was demolished, all except for the Bell Tower, to allow for the construction of a larger church on Laurel Hill Avenue. The park is dedicated to Bishop Jean Baptist Scalabrini and his order of missionary priests who ministered at St. Bartholomew’s Church.
The Parks Department also helps maintain the adjacent Pio A. Romano Jr. & Sr. and 2nd Lt. John Riccitelli Memorial Squares.
Recent Improvements
- Decorative lighting was added in fall 2020.
