The Wood Lot at Salem Street

Recent Improvements
The Wood Depot is located on the former site of Interplex Metals, which was demolished in 2013.
In partnership with Sawmill Enterprises, the City of Providence is so thrilled to repurpose wood waste from our Forestry Operations. June 30, 2025, marked the opening of this new Urban Wood Depot in the West End with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The facility covers more than 42,000 square feet and is intended to offer a community-driven alternative to the usual methods of wood disposal. The goal is for certain materials (such as wood chips and firewood) produced at the depot to be accessible to the local community at little to no cost, contributing to urban agriculture initiatives and promoting sustainable growth.
