Wanskuck Park
History
The Wanskuck House, built in 1870, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The house is one of the few remaining original clapboard buildings that was the caretaker’s cottage with veranda that overlooks the property.
Wanskuck Park was donated to the city of Providence in 1948 by the widow of Senator Jesse Metcalf. The land was part of their estate and informally became known as Metcalf Park. A 25-acre park abutting the North Providence City Line, it includes an open grass field and woods with walking paths throughout both.
Recent Improvements
- The 22-acre walking path and historic house grounds will be renovated in 2026.
- The interior of the house was renovated in 2020.
