Waterplace Park
History
Waterplace Park, a centerpiece of Providence’s Riverwalk and downtown revitalization, is a scenic gathering space overlooking the river, featuring an outdoor amphitheater, restaurant, and public docks. It is a cultural and community hub, hosting vibrant summer concerts and events including Waterfire. The park was envisioned by Rhode Island architect William D. Warner, whose design reconnected the city with its rivers, laying the foundation for this celebrated public space. Construction began in 1988. It was dedicated in 1994 and deeded to the City in 1998.
