The Planning Department works with several different commissions to address specific issues throughout the city.
Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission (BPAC)
City commission charged with serving as an advisory body on matters pertaining to bicycling and walking in the City
Capital Center Commission
Joint City/State commission that reviews and approves development for a 79-acre district in the heart of downtown.
City Plan Commission (CPC)
City commission responsible for reviewing proposed development projects including subdivisions, land development projects, institutional master plans as well as providing advisory opinions to the City Council on all matters related to land use.
Downtown Design Review Committee (DDRC)
City board responsible for reviewing new construction, renovation and demolition projects in downtown.
Providence Business Loan Fund (PBLF)
Non-profit organization that provides technical and financial assistance to Providence businesses.
Providence Historic District Commission (PHDC)
City commission responsible for reviewing new construction, renovation and demolition projects within the City’s eight locally designated historic districts.
Providence Public Building Authority (PPBA)
City agency responsible for providing funding and construction services for municipal buildings.

Providence Redevelopment Agency (PRA)
Quasi-city agency responsible for acquisition, sales and redevelopment of blighted and arrested property. The Real Estate Division provides support to the PRA.
